Rzeszów & Kraków

Rzeszow is the biggest city in south-eastern Poland, in the very foot of the Bieszczady Mountain. Since the beginning of aviation in Poland, Rzeszow is identified with the capital of Aviation Valley – aviation cluster in Subcarpathia uniting about 115 companies, employing over 23 000 engineers – and therefore it still plays a significant role in creating new technologies for that industry. The major airport for the subcarpathian region is situated in Jasionka, a few kilometres from Rzeszow.

There are three main universities, Politechnika Rzeszowska (Rzeszow University of Technology), Uniwersytet Rzeszowski (Rzeszow University) and Wyzsza Szkola Informatyki i Zarzadzania (University of Information Technology and Management in Rzeszow), from which Rzeszow University of Technology since 1976 is educating students for airline pilots and highly qualified staff for aviation industry. Furthermore, the University provides technicians certified to use CNC machines.

The city itself was established in 1354, since 1591 Rzeszow has a city hall. The continuous expansion makes the city quite diverse in styles, from which classicism and gothic are the most common.

Rzeszow is a home for 190 thousand people, from which 53 thousand are students. It gives about 262 students for a thousand citizens and that gives the biggest factor in Poland.

Aviation Valley was started in 2003 as a non-profit organisation aiming to further the development and growth of the aerospace industry in this region. The most recognisable companies in the Aviation Valley are MTU Aero Engines Polska, Hispano-Suiza Polska, Pratt&Whitney Rzeszów or Hamilton Sundstrand.

The University of Technology in Rzeszów was found in 1963. Presently, the University is the largest polytechnic in the region and continues to grow. In the current term the University has an enrollment of 17 000 students at 6 faculties and 24 courses of study. The most recognizable at our University is the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics which is the only one in Poland. This faculty has been training civil aviation pilots since 1976. Trainings of pilots at our University meets European requirements for receiving an airline pilot licence (ATPL), and is conducted at Jasionka (aviation) and Bezmiechowa (gliders). Polite people, well-equipped laboratories, atmosphere of this city makes Rzeszów perfect place to study.

Krakow is the second largest city in Poland, situated in the southern side of Poland by the Wisła River. It is one of the oldest cities in Europe, having its beginnings in 7th century. From 1038 to 1569 Cracow was the capital of Polish Kingdom, and in those time the most characteristic point of the city – Wawel Castle – was built.

The Wawel Castle itself, as a building was the King’s residence and till today remains the most recognisable royal property in Poland. Today, inside the edifice we will find a museum, art gallery and; outside, the beautiful gardens.

The other famous object in Cracow is the Old Town with the Main Square, where there’s a St. Mary’s Basilica which is very well known in Poland for its Trumphet Call – everyday at 12 p.m.. Kazimierz is the historcial district of Krakow, located close to the Old Town. From the 14th century till the 19th, it was an independent city, then the place was well know because of Jewish and Christian who were living there.

There is also the biggest Polish Aviation Museum in Cracow, consisting of over 200 extraordinary aircraft, some of which are unique in the world.
